Or lose it…
Many moons ago, I learned essential German, A1; I was getting better until I dropped out of the program. I knew a few words and could construct simple sentences. Still, since the program became irrelevant, I barely used anything related to the language, and no one around me knew German that I could grammatically play with and exercise my new aggressive German-speaking manner. And there it withered, died as a waste of effort.
